FOP HEALTH TRUST

Stops Flu at Work!

FREE! FREE! FREE!  Flu Shots Offered for FOP Health Trust active and retired members!

To help prevent influenza and make it easy for employees to get their flu shots, The FOP Health Trust is offering a flu shot program this year.  Shots will be available at the main station in early November.  YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER for this event. A sign up sheet and consent form is attached for your convenience. You can also call in your request to the FOP office. Family members 19 years and older, enrolled in our plan may also participate.  The vendor only brings the number of shots we contract for and walk-ins will not be accommodated. The cost to get your flu shot(s) is your time!  Please contact Barbara Stanley 954-527-9218, the FOP office 954-527-2606 or any Health Trust board member. Contact information can be found on the FOP website – www.fop31.org.

Chills, sudden onset of fever, coughing, sneezing…and an important deadline at work?  Or a vacation scheduled to begin tomorrow?  Unfortunately, influenza (the flu) is a contagious lung disease that can ruin your best-laid plans.  Each year, adults who fail to get their annual flu vaccination report millions of unnecessary cases of influenza.

In 1995, an estimated 108 million cases of influenza occurred; they were responsible for 192 million days spent in bed and a total of 302.5 million days of restricted activity.  In the same year, Americans missed more than 75 million workdays.  But what the numbers don’t describe is the inconvenience caused by the flu in addition to the serious physical symptoms of the viral infection.

Working people who get the flu may find it difficult to handle their normal duties, such as jobs, child-care arrangements, household activities and caring for those who depend on them.  Worse yet, another family member or co-worker may catch the virus from you before your symptoms begin.  Additional information can be found at info@vsamerica.com (1-888-4374-4358)

What is influenza?

Unlike other viral respiratory infections, such as the common cold, influenza infection often causes a more severe illness. Typical symptoms of influenza include a sudden onset of high fever and respiratory symptoms such as cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, as well as headache, muscle aches, weakness and fatigue.  Symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea rarely accompany influenza.  The term “stomach flu” is an incorrect name.  Stomach and intestinal illnesses, caused by bacteria or other microorganisms, are not actually the flu.

PLEASE RETURN as soon as possible or call 954-527-9218 so that we can finalize the number of shots we need to purchase.
